Johanna “Wildoak”, producer and host of Wildoak Living, talks with Gus Speth about his new memoir Angels By The River. Few people have been tracking climate change longer--or have spent more of their lives trying to understand and form policy to respond to it--than Gus Speth. Just an abbreviated list of his environmental posts includes:
·      Founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council and World Resources Institute,
·      Environmental advisor to Presidents Carter and Clinton,
·      Chair of the United Nations Development Group, and
·      Dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

In Angels by the River: A Memoir, Speth recalls not only his public life, but also his childhood in pre-Civil Rights South Carolina. He reflects as much on what isn't in his resume as what is. He gives thanks for what he calls "blind, dumb luck" and for the abundant efforts of others, those who have been his "angels by the river." And in the process, Speth illuminates a remarkable life of service modestly and graciously lived. Join us as Gus shares his experience and insights gained over a lifetime.

Here is what Al Gore, former vice president of the United States says about Angels by The River: "A longtime friend and ally, Gus Speth is a tireless advocate for the environment. His accumulated stories and knowledge, the kind that could only come from decades of experience at the highest levels, provide a unique and insightful look into our history, and the way forward from here."

Gus Speth’s previous books include Red Sky at Morning, The Bridge at the Edge of the World, and America the Possible. His two-part essay drawn from America the Possible appeared in the March/April and May/June 2012 issues of Orion.
