Join Johanna "Wildoak" for Wildoak Living

the radio program about living sustainably

in Mendocino County and beyond.

The next program will air live on

Monday, March 28, from 9 to 10am PT

on Mendocino County Public Broadcasting (KZYX)

and on the web at kzyx.org

Program Topic:

Funding our Local Fire Fighters

Johanna “Wildoak”, host and producer of the radio program “Wildoak Living” talks with several representatives of the the Mendocino County Association of Fire Districts (MCAFD). This organization was formed to provide greater representation for Volunteer Fire Districts with the Board of Supervisors and Mendocino County, particularly in regards to funding. Their mission:

“As an association of public safety service providers, Mendocino County Association of Fire Districts (MCAFD) exists to promote and sustain effectiveness of local county fire districts and unincorporated county fire departments at performing their critical fire, rescue and medical aid operations.”

MCAFD’s goals:

“The Association will actively pursue all issues that affect operational health of our local fire departments. The Association will bring these issues to the attention of county residents they serve and to the attention of elected officials who control funding for county fire districts and fire departments.”

My guests will include:

Andres Avila: Chief, Anderson Valley Fire Department

Denise Rose, Brooktrails CSD

Michael Schaeffer, Comptche CSD

Alan Taeger, Albion-Little River Fire District Board

We will examine the general state of our Volunteer Fire department system, what we face in the near future, and what is needed to fund our fire fighters, emergency medical, rescue and general emergency response, all of which are provided by firefighters.

Among other topics, we will discuss the history and status of Proposition 172 and the upcoming Board of Supervisor vote on April 5 to address Fire funding
