Our news department presents some of our work developed when covering coastal issues. We will broadcast a conversation we had in Gualala last week at Trink's with Naked Whale Research founder and director, Jodi Smith. She is studying the killer whale pods off of the coast. Smith has spent the last 14 years studying the pods at their summer home in the San Juan Islands. Researchers were not sure where they spent the winter months. But the fact is, they are here off of the Mendocino Coast.

We will replay the piece Lorraine Dechter produced about the Point Arena Lighthouse. They are involved in some joint projects with Jodi Smith's Naked Whale Research group, including a revamping of the Whale Watch room and the installation of hydrophones to pick up the ocean sounds, including the whales who travel by.

Reporter Sheri Quinn recently had her coverage of the seal pups washing up on the shoreline broadcast on the California Report (KQED). We will hear her story, and hear the latest developments.

That's on Thursday at 9am on KZYX. Be sure to join us!
