On the February 1st program of Consider This (9:00AM), we will talk with several people in education about the Common Core State Standards (for Kindergarten through 12th grade), and associated testing, being rolled out in California and forty-four other states in the union. Dr. Joan Bissell is Director for Teacher Education and Public School Programs in the Chancellor's Office of the California State University system. Paul Tichinin is the Superintendent of Schools for Mendocino County, and Paul Joens-Poulton is the Executive Director of Educational Services for the Mendocino County Office of Education. Finally, Deborah Sigman is the Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, School & Innovation Branch, at the California Department of Education, and also a member of the Executive Committee of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium , which is developing the standardized testing that will be employed by the state, and she will join us for the first part of the show.
