From KZYX Reporter Lorraine Dechter:

Several roads that were closed due to the Black Fire in Mendocino County are now open. Off of Potter Valley Road, Horseshoe Circle is now open, from the Potter Valley side. Guntley Ranch and Shale Road are now open as well.

Traffic is still being held back at Black Bart Trail at Ricetti Lane. Most residents are being allowed back to their homes in the fire area near the ridge between Potter Valley and Redwood Valley, except for some in the Hell's Delight Canyon area.

KZYX jazz programmer Dave Barre lives on Black Bart trail near Hell's Delight Canyon. He and his wife have made it back home and found their residence safe. But they are close to several burned homes and structures. At least seven structures have been destroyed.

Most of the damage was on the ridge between the two watersheds of Potter Valley and Redwood Valley. The fire started yesterday in the late afternoon, about 4pm.

Mendocino Sheriff's Lieutenant Commander Shannon Barney said that ridge was also where the two fire trucks and a utility pick up truck were destroyed last night. Barney said they were up on a knoll, and when the fire over ran the ridge, it rolled right over the vehicles too. He said no one was hurt.

There is a line completely around the fire now, and CALFIRE is hoping the line will hold as the west winds pick up this afternoon.
